Below are the guidelines for ending the Work Permit of your Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) in Singapore:
There are essentially two approaches: either independently cancel the FDW’s Work Permit or seek assistance from the employment agency through which you hired your maid.
Before proceeding with the cancellation, several considerations must be addressed:
Provide adequate notice to your maid (typically up to 1 month) and mutually agree on the last day of work. Settle all outstanding salary on the final working day. Ensure your maid signs the salary schedule form to acknowledge receipt of the correct amount, and date and sign it. Ensure your maid’s passport is still valid before booking her air-ticket. Research for the most economical air-ticket to her country of origin, nearest to her hometown. Remember, it’s your responsibility to purchase a one-way air-ticket for her. Coercing your maid to pay for her own ticket is illegal. Regardless of whether she completed her 2-year contract or only worked for a few days, it’s your duty as her employer to cover the airfare. The air-ticket should include the check-in luggage fee, and you are responsible for sending her to the airport and checking her in. When should you cancel your maid’s Work Permit? You must cancel her Work Permit within 1 week after her last day of work or 1 day after her Work Permit expires, whichever comes first.
Steps to cancel your maid’s Work Permit independently:
Log in with your SingPass and proceed to cancel her Work Permit. The cancellation is free and immediate. After cancellation, print the Special Pass, which will allow your maid to stay in Singapore until she departs. At the airport, provide the Special Pass to your maid. She must present this and her valid passport to the immigration officer before leaving Singapore. Steps to cancel your maid’s Work Permit using an employment agency:
Inquire if your employment agency offers Work Permit cancellation assistance. If not, search for agencies that provide this service. Be sure to ask about any associated fees. Sign an authorization form provided by the agency, as it’s required before they can cancel the Work Permit. Upon completion, the agency will email you the Special Pass, which you must pass to your maid for departure. If you’ve engaged the agency to handle repatriation, inquire about their charges for this service and make your decision accordingly.
